This morning I am going to get my annual haircut. It will be much shorter than my current mop. I have taken "before' photos, and will take 'after' photos.

See ya later!

Ok - after doing some sprucing around the house I have herded my maps into one place. I am now at a loss as to how to store them. Ideally I want to be able to see the spines.

How do you store your maps?

This is a note to myself more than anything. The subject of multiple births in China popped up at Guides one night. I didn't know if China still works this policy - it does, and multiple births are permitted.

The thing is, it appears that wealthier couples are using fertility drugs to increase the chance of having twins, and in more rural areas, officials are bribed to register 'twins' that are 2, 3, 4 years apart.

Must let the Guides know what I found out.

Can people please go to this site and vote

of course I'd really like it if you chose Girlguiding UK, but I realise everyone has different priorities.

This evening I listened again to BBC radio 4's "Open Book". Jane Smiley has written a book about the novel, after reading 100 of the devils.

Here's the list if anyone's interested.

The game that really matters today is through to penalties!

Will Gretna beat Hearts who are down to ten men (losing one of their key penalty takers)?

Off downstairs to analogue to watch the rest!!

Girlguiding Scotland's efforts to try and improve women's horizons as highlighted by [livejournal.com profile] mashnut, are in contrast to some of CHQ's more dubious association with Barbie and mattel. I'm sure there was something in one of the Guiding magazines about Barbie, and I found this from last year:

I know that this competition does have some merits, but the whole Barbie experience leaves me dead. What's everyone else's views on Guiding and Barbie?

After reading two 'No.1 Ladies Detective Agency' books in a row, and having this book by the same author to hand, I decided to try 'The Sunday Philosophy Club'.

There are striking parallels between Isabel Dalhousie and Mma Ramotswe. Both feel that they have a role to play determined by their respective business interests, (as propietor of the Detective Agency and the editor of The Review of Applied Ethics).

I was lucky enough to live in Edinburgh for five years and so I could visualise the locations mentioned in the book which was cosy.

My favourite character has to be Grace, the housekeeper. The others I couldn't warm to and there doesn't seem to be the heart of 'Ladies Detective' in this creation by McCall Smith.

On the whole it is an easy read. There are sprinkles of references to various philosophers and there were one or two words I need to look-up, but on the whole I sped through it.

I've locked all my entries and now have a 'Friends Only' type affair.

If there is anyone out there who has been following my journal and who wants me to friend him/her, then just post a comment below and I'll see what I can do ;)

(BTW, I've never noticed before that the acronym of Friends Only is the same as F**k Off!)

As promised, here are some other photos. They are a couple of shots I took whilst it was still summer!

(Things have taken a decidedly autumnal turn now!)

Cows! (Well, bullocks!)

This journal is Friends Only, I'm afraid. Leave a comment here if you would like to be added as a friend.
